The Future of (Mediated) Scholarship
The Future of (Mediated) Scholarship workshop series continues with Presentation Zen, dedicated to the art and science of the scholarly presentation, whether at conferences, for job talks or in the classroom. Open to all graduate students, the workshop begins with an overview of media capture tools, then explores the stylistics of presentation, and then works through specific tricks with PowerPoint. Overall, the goal is to help students prepare media materials easily and professionally. Lunch provided to those who RSVP.

10:00 – 11:00: Media Gathering, Ripping and Storing
Learn how to gather moving image clips and audio effectively and easily.
11:00 - 12:00: Presentation Stylistics
What works? What doesn’t? Design, timing and performance.
12:00 - 12:30 Lunch provided
12:30 - 2:00: Expertise With PowerPoint
This session works through a series of specific techniques using PowerPoint, from the basic good habits you should use to more advanced tips and tricks.
2:00 - 3:00: Hooking Up / Backing Up
Meet the dongles, cables and connectors you’ll need to connect quickly and professionally, and discover the tools to use when, for whatever reason, something goes terribly awry… Plus, what are options for distributing your presentations after they’ve been presented?
