Streaming Filmmaker Summit @ Slamdance
On Saturday, January 23rd, the IML will participate in a Filmmaker Summit, which is being hosted by the Slamdance Film Festival, the Workbook Project and the Open Video Alliance in Park City, Utah. The event will be streamed to the IML Conference room from 10 am to 1 pm (PST). The summit was created in response to an “independent film industry in turmoil.” Speakers and attendees will consider how emergent technologies can help expand the filmmaker’s reach by engaging global audiences across multiple platforms, and by creating spaces for new collaborative possibilities. This transmedia approach, the summit’s creators believe, is necessary for sustainable independent filmmaking in the context of today’s tools and the social networking they engender.
The opening discussion features Steven Soderbergh, Lance Weiler and Peter Baxter considering “what the future could/should look like for those wanting to tell stories and reach audiences.” See the event’s site for the full program.
The IML joins Columbia University as virtual participants. Vicki Callahan will moderate as the talks are streamed into the Seminar Room, while a Twitter backchannel allows virtual participants to ask questions and add comments. There is also a discussion site where people can weigh in beforehand.
This event is free and open to all.
