Remixing the Archive explores the evolving status of digital archives in an age when technology facilitates complex modes of reuse and re-combination of preexisting objects and ideas. Join us for two days of speakers, performances, screenings, panels, presentations and workshops!

DESIGNING INTERACTIVE REMIXES: THE KORSAKOW SYSTEM

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the Korsakow System, an easy-to-learn program for creating sophisticated interactive remix projects which does not require an actual database or programming knowledge.

OPTICAL DE-DRAMATIZATION ENGINE (O.D.E.) APPLIED TO THE HOLLYWOOD WESTERN

In this workshop, artist Barbara Lattanzi will lead participants in the use of Flash software to construct their own playable media instruments for improvisational video re-mixing of the cowboy myth of the West.

THE FINE ART OF MEDIA COLLAGE WITH ANIMAL CHARM
Jim Fetterly, one half of the notorious VJ duo known as Animal Charm, brings remix back to its roots with hands-on training in the fine art of media collage using analog video switchers and audio samplers. Participants are invited to bring their own DVDs, and come ready to mix!

REMIX OR ROLLOVER: ARCHIVAL PARADOXES IN CENTURY 21
Writer, filmmaker and archivist Rick Prelinger will present a talk/collage that explores the past, present and future relationships of those who control images, sounds and texts and those who work with them.

THE RE-MAP PROJECT
A poly-media event dissecting racialized bodies with Rene Garcia and Leonardo Bondani, The RE-MAP Project creates a live-time video mix culled from contemporary and historic films, documentaries, commercials, biological footage and still photography to explore the collision of racialized bodies, medical technologies, surveillance and violence of the future.

ADVENTURE POSEIDON, THE (THE UNSINKING OF MY SHIP)
Screening takes place in the Ron Howard Screening Room, Zemeckis Center. Map available here
Filmmaker/video artist Anne McGuire presents the World premiere of her new film, Adventure Poseidon, The (The Unsinking of My Ship), which celebrates the 20-year anniversary of the artist’s very own real-life shipwreck experience. McGuire will be in attendance to discuss the film following the screening.
